Motorola has announced that older MTS and MCS 2000 model handheld and mobile radios will no longer be supported effective June 30, 2010.
This means that, after July 1, 2010, Motorola will undertake repairs to MTS 2000 radios, on a time-and-materials basis, only if they have the requisite materials on hand. If not, a broken MTS 2000 radio will need to be replaced with a newer, supported model.
Functioning MTS and MCS 2000 radios will continue to work on our radio system after July 1, 2010.
To avoid time-and-material repair costs or the possibility of no repairs being available at all, Communications Services can send old MTS radios in for repair and rehabilitation now, for the cost of shipping alone. Rehabilitating an older radio now is likely to extend its useful life.
If your department would like to send in its older radios for rehabilitation, please bring them to the Communications Services Customer Service center at the rear of Public Safety Building 574. Normal turnaround time from Motorola is three weeks. If your department has a large number of radios or if you don't want to send in all your radios at once, Communications Services recommends sending in at least a third of your units at a time to assure getting all your radios cycled through the rehabilitation process before June 30, 2010.
Identify Your Models
The radio units that will no longer be supported after July 1 are our older black brick-style radios, some of which have been in service since the campus radio system was installed 1997. These models are pictured below.

This change from Motorola does NOT apply to the newer XTS model radios (see below), which will continue to be supported as usual.
