SMS Text Messages through Email

In addition to sending SMS (Short Message Service) text messages directly to another cell phone number, wireless service users can also send an SMS message via email. UCSB voice mail customers, for example, may want to have voice mail message waiting email (MWI Email) notices sent to their cell phones.

There are no charges to send email messages to a cell phone. However, your cellular carrier's rates for receipt of those messages will apply.

The address you use to send SMS text messages via email will differ by carrier, but is typically composed of the recipient's ten-digit cell phone number, followed by the carrier's SMS email gateway address.

A list of carrier gateway addresses follows. Replace "cellnumber" with your ten-digit recipent cell phone number to get the full SMS email address.
