Because UCSB's telephone cable plant is designed to support only voice-grade telephone service for the University community, wire-based data solutions such as Verizon's DSL service are not supported. UCSB's television cable plant does not support cable modem service.
UCSB can, however, provide contractors and vendors with a 10 Mbps connection to the campus backbone network, which includes access to the commercial internet, through Communications Services' Business And Non Academic Network Access Service (BANANAS) offering. This service supports multiple static IP addresses per location.
There is a monthly charge for the BANANAS service, prorated after the first month. Additional installation charges may apply, at the current approved Communications Services labor rate. Required campus overhead charges will also be applied.
To request service, use our PDF application form, Contractor/Vendor Request For Internet Access. Please print the form, fill it out, and fax it to Communications Services at 805-893-7272.
You may contact Communications Services Customer Service at 805-893-8700 for more details.
