Emergency Telephone Specifications

Exterior Installations

The current standard emergency telephone for outside of buildings is the Gai-Tronics Model 297 Flush-Mount Telephone with Red Housing.

The dimensions of the telephone are:

  • Height: 12.5"
  • Width: 10.25"
  • Depth: 6.25" top; 3.25" bottom

Telephones should be mounted in such a way that they can easily be replaced using special mounting screws.

Interior Installations

The current standard emergency telephone for inside buildings is the Gai-Tronics Model 393-0001 Single Button Surface Mount.

The dimensions of the telephone are:

  • Height: 9.5"
  • Width: 8.0"
  • Depth: 4.0"


All Installations

Gai-Tronics emergency telephones may be configurable for multiple options, including switching of external AC power to serve external accessories such as a strobe light. Note: UCSB Communications Services does not support AC switching configurations. Most programming options should be disabled upon installation. Emergency telephone instruments must:

  1. Allow for hands-free usage.
  2. Be placed at a height of 48" at the button.
  3. Be telephone line powered.
  4. Be compatible with Centrex dial tone or PBX battery.
  5. Be programmed for "off hook" activation to a ring down circuit.
  6. Be capable of being called back directly without reaching a programming options menu.
  7. Withstand extended exposure to a harsh coastal environment, especially salt air.
  8. Use a standard telephone jack and not be hard wired.
