- Presentations to Telephone Advisory Committee by vendors on system
capabilities and features (by November 1, 1995)
- Telephone Advisory Committee evaluates and reaches consensus on needs (by
January 1, 1996)
- Develop and issue RFP for new system (by March 1, 1996)
- Vendor's pre-bid conference (April 5, 1996)
- Receive RFP responses (by June 1, 1996)
- Select vendor (by August 1, 1996)
- Sign contract for new system (by October 1, 1996)
- Have new system operational (by July 1, 1997)

- Complete presentations to Telephone Advisory Committee by vendors on
system capabilities and features (by March 1, 1996)
- Begin negotiations for reallocation of existing space to house up to ten
nodes of switching equipment. The space would be reallocated if and only if the
subsequent RFP review resulted in the selection of an on-campus distributed
architecture switching system (start by March 1, 1996)
- Telephone Advisory Committee evaluates and reaches consensus on needs (by
July 1, 1996)
- Complete draft RFP for new system (by September 1, 1996)
- Draft RFP reviewed and amended by Business Services and General Counsel
(January 1, 1997)
- RFP printed and issued to vendors (February 1, 1997)
- Vendor's pre-bid conference (approximately April 1, 1997)
- Receive RFP responses (by June 1, 1997)
- Evaluate responses and select vendor (by August 1, 1997)
- Negotiate terms and sign contract for new system (by October 1, 1997)
If new switch (UCSB or vendor-owned) will be installed on-campus and
the switch uses a monolithic architecture:
- Begin construction of a new switch room (by October 1, 1997)
- Complete construction of a new switch room and begin switch installation
(by October 1, 1999)
- New system operational (by April 1, 2000)
or, if new switch (UCSB or vendor-owned) will be installed on-campus
and the switch uses a distributed architecture:
- Begin renovations of existing space that has been reallocated to house the
distributed nodes (by October 1, 1997)
- Complete renovations of existing space and begin switch installation (by
October 1, 1998)
- New system operational (by April 1, 1999)
or, if new switch will be installed off-campus:
- Begin switch installation (by October 1, 1997)
- New system operational (by April 1, 1998)
